19 Sep 2010

The final match in this year’s European Shield tournament will take place in the Ukraine when the hosts face Latvia at the Arsenal Stadium in Kharkiv (kick off 4pm) in the East section.

Russia have already won the silverware after beating both nations but it is a chance for them to further their international experience as both countries build for the future.

The bulk of the home nation’s side come from local outfit Legion XIII  and Ukrainian RL player/coach Artur Martyrosyan commented: “This is the final game and, although the Shield is won, there is no doubt that both Ukraine and Latvia would be looking to win it.”

“I expect an interesting match especially because it`s the first time that Ukraine gets to host an official representative fixture.”

Eastern Europe Regional Director Julia Bennison added: “All three Nations participated in the Euro Shield for the first time. We`ve had new venues; nations that have not played each other before and others who get to stage an international for the first time.”

“It`s a new experience on different levels and we are looking forward to completing the tournament, enjoying the event and celebrating the growth of Rugby League in Europe”.
