Dundee International Sport centre will host Scotland v Ireland in the 1st leg of the Celtic Cup on Saturday 18th April 2015.
This will be the first ever wheelchair rugby league international held in Scotland in the sport’s short history in the country. Despite this, Scotland have competed in internationals from 2012 with two Four Nations and one World Cup under their belts, the team are ready for the challenge Ireland will provide.
Scotland coach Jamie Seery said "we are delighted to be able to announce what will be an historic day in Dundee. We have been working with Ireland to ensure we provide a great experience for the spectators, many of whom will have never have seen the sport before. This is set to be our biggest year yet with these internationals, followed by the European Championships later in the year.
"Whilst this will be the first International in Dundee, the sport certainly isn’t new to the area, with Dundee Dragons flying the flag for Wheelchair Rugby League in Tayside. Dundee is also the home of Scotland's main sponsor GT Diamond Drilling, who continue to lead the way in supporting grassroots sport.
Following the announcement Dragons coach Kevin Rattray said, "Dundee Dragons are delighted that the the first ever Wheelchair Rugby League international test match between Scotland and Ireland will be held in Dundee.
I'm sure the spectators will enjoy the speed of thought and action needed to reach the highest level of the sport. The match will be perfect preparation for the teams as they ready themselves for the forthcoming European Championship."
Preparation for the day is taking place in Dundee with a sell out crowd expected.
