DEBUTANTS STOCKHOLM WIN SCANDINAVIAN 9S

26 Mar 2015

Newcomers Stockholm Kungar, in their first official competition, were triumphant in the pre-season Scandinavian 9s, held in Kungsbacka. Kungar defeated defending champions Copenhagen Black Swans in their first game, played in light snow, and also went on to overcome Sodertalje in the pool stages. In the decder, against three-time finalists Skane Crusaders, man of the tournament Dzenan Durgut led the way as Kungar scored four tries to one.

Sweden Rugby League chairman Paul Briggs commented, “The standard of play in Sweden has grown rapidly over the pre-season, with some amazing talent in the new teams. I was most impressed by the hosts, Kungsbacka Broncos, improvement and passion for the game. Next up, the Impact Prowear league starts and marks a new era of growth and development for rugby league in Sweden.”

Match official officer Raymond Elliot was very happy with the addition of new referees following the previous weekend's EU-backed RLEF level 1 match official course saying, “The 9s was a great opportunity for them to gain further experience of competitive rugby league.”
