JAMAICAN CHAMPIONSHIP SET TO KICK OFF ITS TENTH SEASON

4 Jun 2015

The Jamaican National Club Championship (NCC) kicks off this Saturday (June 6) with six teams vying for rugby league supremacy as the competition celebrates its tenth season, culminating with the Grand Final on October 3.

Defending champions GC Foster Lions (pictured) will face  Duhaney Park Red Sharks, Vauxhall Vultures, The Jamaica Defence Force, Spanish Town Vikings and last season's runners-up, Liguanea Dragons. After 10 rounds, the number one and two seeds will go straight to the semi-finals, while positions 3 to 6 will play in eliminator matches to determine their opponents.

The opening fixtures see The Jamaica Defence Force play Vauxhall at 2pm, while Duhaney Park will host Liguanea at 4pm, with both matches scheduled for the Duhaney Park Mini Stadium. On Sunday, GC Foster Lions will entertain Spanish Town Vikings at 4pm at the GC Foster College ground.

JRLA Director of Rugby Romeo Monteith is looking forward to a strong showing from all the sides. “Last season was great for us as we had GC Foster Lions winning a national title for the first time,” he commented. “This year, all the teams are looking strong and there is no clear favourite. Every game will matter as teams jostle for play-off positions and some exciting rugby league will be played.”
