GC Foster picked up the first silverware of the 2016-17 Jamaican rugby league season when they defeated Mico University 20-0 in the final of the Intercollegiate 9's Championship.

Six colleges and universities took part in a round-robin tournament including debutants Caribbean Maritime Institute who held Excelsior Community College to a 8-8 draw in their best performance.

The University of the West Indies, the University of Technology and Excelsior Community College were the others involved, GC Foster remaining unbeaten throughout although drawing with Mico in the group stages.

In the final, Arian Thomas (2), Steve Miller, Ryan Pryce and Adam Morris were their try scorers.

Meanwhile, three Jamaican players have been selected in the squad of 18 who will fly to England to trial for Toronto Wolfpack, who are set to join English League 1 next season, after successfully coming through trials on the island.

Tyronie Rowe, Antonio Baker and Kenneth Walker will make the 12-day trip to the UK in December to battle for five positions in the Wolfpack squad.
