9 Jun 2011

Somerset-born, ex Scotland student and South London Storm rugby league player Adam Nunn is the driving force behind setting up the sport in its newest nation, Hungary. He has gathered together a significant group of players who are keen and willing to try the game and established the Magyar Bulls national side, together with an accompanying facebook page.He moved to Budapest in 2008 and has sensed an increasing demand for rugby league in the country.

“I think the physique of the players here is ideally suited to the game,” he said. “The players at the first training session showed great enthusiasm and plenty of skill. There is a definite window of opportunity here and with more kit and resources, a genuine chance to establish a real presence here.”

The Hungarians and the Rugby League European Federation have been in discussions for five months about the venture. Jovan Vujosevic, RLEF Central Europe Regional Director commented, “I believe that the beginning and development of rugby league in Hungary is very important for Central European Region. It creates a link between Hungary, Czech Republic and Serbia. This area has great potential for rugby league and I believe that the emergence of Hungary will supplement the whole region.”
