ARIS EAGLES WOMEN TAKE TITLE IN EXTRA TIME

A try by Aris Eagles winger Paula Grosyk in golden-point extra-time saw her side become the inaugural winners of the Greek Rugby League Association Women’s Grand Final, beating Attica Rhinos 8-4 at the Gkorytsa Stadium, Aspropyrgos.

Attica opened the scoring through national team forward Chrysavgi Bakaloumi and led 4-0 at the break, Aris waiting until five minutes from full time to draw level, player of the match Asimina Mastoraki crossing.

The conversion attempt from captain Sophia Kitsaneli's hit the crossbar and there was more drama in the final seconds when Attica were pulled back for a forward pass, Gorysk then settling matters, the Aris fans setting off flares to celebrate their success.

Kitsaneli said on collecting the trophy: “After a tough final between two very strong teams, we are very happy to be the first ever champions of the Greek RL women's championship. It's been a tough year for us, with many injuries, but we've stuck together, worked hard, got the result we wanted and I couldn't be  prouder of every single player who has played for our team this year.”
