DUTCH DAMES TO MAKE DEBUT

8 Nov 2023

Netherlands will become the latest nation to field a women’s side when they face Greece in Athens on Saturday December 9.

The Dutch Dames will be co-coached by Matt Rigby and Brett Davidson following the start of women’s activity in the country earlier this year. Davidson has been in charge of the women’s and girl’s start up programme which has seen more than 100 new participants involved.

“We’re excited to announce our first-ever senior women's international match,” said Rigby. “We have been working all year on recruitment and development of new players and are gelling quite nicely. We’re looking forward to taking on an experienced Greek side. We've seen them play a couple times, so are aware of the challenge they pose to us. We will be looking to be competitive and challenge the best we can in what will be a historic occasion for our nation."

Greece women’s head coach, Stuart McLennan, noted: “We welcome the opportunity to play another international this year for world ranking points. We are yet to see the Netherlands women on the international stage but judging by the recent performances of their men’s team, I’m expecting us to come up against a well drilled, competitive side. Last year we played our first ever women’s match in Athens against Serbia and were boosted by a large vocal crowd and we expect it to be similar this time. We will have a number of new faces and I’m looking forward to seeing them perform in front of their home supporters.”
