USARL SEEKING INDEPENDENT DIRECTORS

26 Feb 2024

Following the first board meeting of the newly reformed United States Association of Rugby League (USARL), the organization is now seeking to appoint independent directors to join the board.

Expressions of interest are invited from candidates possessing diverse backgrounds and experience in either corporate governance, event management, legal expertise in the field, funding or C suite and board level experience to contribute to the strategic leadership.

Interested candidates are invited to apply by submitting their details and CV to Matt Goschnick at [email protected]

At the initial meeting since the IRL reform process, David Abo of Pacific Coast RL and the LA Jackrabbits has been appointed interim chair, taking over from Drew Slover.

Three new committees have been established: an overall strategy committee, consisting of four members - with representation of each rugby league region of the US; marketing and communications committee - headed by Dustin Zerrer, Chris Martin and Darren Piggins; and an independent board member search committee.

"I am deeply honored and humbled to have been elected as the interim chair for the board of directors of USARL,” said Abo. “This appointment is not just a personal achievement but a testament to the collective dedication of everyone involved in the rugby league community.

“Our sport has immense potential and I am optimistic about the direction we are heading. This new board of directors brings a wealth of experience and passion for rugby league, and I am confident that we will work collaboratively to elevate the standards and visibility of the sport in the US.”

He added: “The landscape of rugby league in the United States is evolving, and with it comes an exciting future. I believe that by fostering unity, innovation, and inclusivity, we can propel the USARL to new heights. Together, we will create an environment where players, fans, and stakeholders alike can thrive.”
