GB COMMUNITY LIONS TOUR TO SERBIA
Great Britain Community Lions began their two –match tour of Serbia with a crushing 70-6 triumph against a Belgrade selection.

“This was a tough test for us,” said Belgrade federation official Rale Novakovic. “Especially considering that the team from Belgrade comprised a lot of young players, who felt a really tough match against a really strong opponent of Great Britain.”

The 35 degree hear made conditions difficult for both teams. Serbia’s national team now faces the Lions on Sunday, in what the SLRF consider the greatest litmus test ahead of October’s world cup qualifiers. Stand-off Jordan Precious kicked seven of eleven goals and snared a try in the 14-tries-to-one victory. Dan Birkett came off the bench to notch a hat-trick while Jason Bowsley and Paul Pendelbury both bagged braces. English-born Austen Novakovic scored Belgrade’s solo try just before the hour mark.

“This match will give Lee Crooks and Marko Jankovic the chance to get a true picture of how the Serbian national team needs to improve during the summer preparation, which will start in mid August,” concluded Novakovic.
