GHANA RUGBY LEAGUE LAUNCH NEW SEASON

22 Apr 2025

Ghana Rugby League’s men’s competition will have two new teams in 2025 with the additions of UG Titans and Dragons, making it a six-team 13s Championship, joining defending champions Bulls, Skolars, Panthers and Tigers.

All the sides were present at the season launch weekend, initially held at a preseason boot camp at Teshie’s Military Academy Training School. Dubbed ‘D’stress’, the camp brought together players from the different clubs for a rigorous day of drills, fitness assessments, and team building exercises in an unprecedented initiative.

The following day, representatives moved to the GHOne TV Studios in Accra together with key figures from the sporting and government sectors emphasizing the RLFG intention of transforming grassroots talent and making a mark on the international stage, all under the theme “Our League.”

RLFG president Juliana Storey commented: “2025 marks a transformational phase aimed at expanding media partnerships, grassroots development and international competitiveness. Such initiatives are expected to boost local interest and attract international recognition, positioning Ghana as a rising power in the sport.

“With a blend of tradition and innovation, the 13s Championship stands to redefine Ghana’s sporting landscape fostering pride, unity, and a new generation of rugby stars. The season’s start signals a renewed commitment to excellence and a strategic push towards making Ghana a formidable force in international rugby league competitions.”
