SERBIA TO FACE FRANCE FEDERAL ON SATURDAY IN LYON

15 Jun 2012

The Serbian national team plays a friendly versus France Federale on Saturday at the Vuillerment Stadium in Lyon, kick off at 4 p.m. This is the second game between Serbia and France Federale. The first game was played in 2005, with France Federale the winners.

Serbian national team coach Marko Jankovic selected 18 players for the game, 12 of them fresh from Saturday’s dramatic victory against Italy in the European Shield. “We had a very hard game on Saturday,” he said, “but unfortunately it has taken its toll and five players that played against. Italy are unfit for the match against France Federael. We won’t have Dalibor Vukanovic, Ivan and Milan Susnjara, Stevan Stevanovic and Vojislav Dedic. This game gives me an excellent opportunity to try some young players in a very competitive atmosphere.”

Nebojsa Sretenovic, Serbian Rugby League Federation board member, points out the long-standing friendship between these two pioneering rugby league nations: “It’s great that we are in Lyon and that we will play a friendly vs. France Federale.  Serbian Rugby League has historically enjoyed good relations with France’s Rugby League Federation – it was through the efforts of the French Rugby League Federation that rugby league started in Serbia in 1953. We are very thankful to the French and are happy to be in Lyon.”
