2 Sep 2012

The Jamaica Rugby League Association’s 2012 National Club Champions will be decided next weekend when old foes Vauxhall Vultures and Duhaney Park Red Sharks face each other at Up Park. The two clubs have emerged from a pack of eight who began the campaign on June 23rd.

There were contrasting semi-final victories with defending champions Duhaney Park narrowly defeating Maxfield Rookies Star Steppers 31-30 while last year’s beaten finalists, and four times previous national champions the Vultures, dominated GC Foster Lions in a comfortable 26-12 win.

Maxfield had tries from Renaldo Wade, Allesandro Allen, Dushane Alfred, Akeem Trewick and Oshane Eddie. Eddie also kicked three goals and Joseph Shae two. Duhaney Park replied with tries from Robert Rodney, Jermaine Pinnock, Stephen Brown and Fabion Turner who grabbed a double. Marvin Thompson kicked five goals. After tying up the score at 30-all with two minutes remaining, the Red Sharks marched up field from the ensuing kick-off and Roy Calvert kicked the winning points with a drop-goal.

Vauxhall’s points came through Carlyle Burger, Andrew Fong, Fabian Atkinson, Jahdeek Clarke, Richardo Robinson and Everton Richards, each scoring a try, while Tiege Jackson kicked a conversion. GC Foster’s Ryan Grant scored two tries and kicked two goals in response. The clubs have met in the Grand Finals on four occasions with Vauxhall leading the series 3-1.
