Scotland Under-18 coach Mark Senter has named a 19-man squad for the international against Wales on Saturday at Wrexham. Included are seven players from Glasgow club Easterhouse Panthers and six from Super League academies, three of whom are Scottish products Derek McNeil, Louis Senter and Daryl Love, who spent this season at Hull Kingston Rovers.
Only six of the side have played for Scotland U18s before: McNeil and Love, Easterhouse second-row Sam Herron, Sheffield back Alasdair McDougall-Stone, Hull forward Owen Wedgewood and Wakefield lock Corbyn Kilday all played in the 34-10 defeat by England last November.
There is a clear player development pathway now through the ranks for Scotland: among those who played last year, Glasgow-born Shae Lyon-Fraser, now a professional at Wigan Warriors, and Stirling’s David Scott, who has just signed for Featherstone Rovers from Hull KR, were both in the full Scotland squad this month for the Alitalia European Cup a year after playing for Scotland U18s. The squad is typical of Scotland RL - among the pool are players from as far afield as Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Sheffield and Bristol. Kick-off at Queensway Activity and Leisure Centre is 2.30pm. Scotland U18s then play England at Falkirk on Sunday 18 November.
