17 Jun 2013

The Jamaica Rugby League Association  successfully staged its second annual Primary School Championship this weekend at GC Foster College with over 100 children from six schools participating. Defending champions Seaview Gardens were superb for the second year running, chalking up five wins and a draw to retain their title ahead of Naggohead Primary, Crescent Primary, Dupont Primary, Southboro Primary and Trafalgar Christian Academy.

Debutants Dupont Primary finished second overall, also remaining unbeaten, after winning two games and featuring in four draws draws. Naggohead took third place on six points. All teams played each other once in a round robin format using Touch Rugby rules as full contact is not permitted at primary school level.

Director of Rugby Romeo Monteith commented, “It brings great joy to have our children play rugby league, the look on their faces as they are participating is priceless and as an Association we will continue to grow the sport at this level. Thanks to the Sports Development Foundation and the Rugby League European Federation who supply practical support, we are able to sustain and expand our delivery of rugby league to Jamaicans of all ages.”
