For the second year in a row,  the Duhaney Park Red Sharks represent Jamaica in today’s fourth USA Rugby League 9-a-side tournament in Conshohocken, Philadelphia, at the A.A. Garthwaite Stadium.

The Red Sharks, who were knocked out in the quarter-finals by the Rhode Island Rebellion last year, will face USARL national champions Philadelphia Fight and the newly formed Brooklyn Kings in the group stages.

Duhaney Park will reply on Jamaica national players Robert Rodney and Romaen Campbell to lead their campaign. Campbell played a full season in the American competition last year with the Boston 13s and the Red Sharks will look to use his knowledge of the American teams to advance their cause.

JRLA Director of Rugby, Romeo Monteith sees the participation of the Red Sharks as critical in building the relationship between Jamaica and the USA as well as exposing local players to more high quality rugby league.

"The USA has been the benchmark for rugby league in the Americas for a long time and so we welcome every opportunity to play games and share ideas with their players and administrators,” he said.

“It is our desire to see more competition between clubs from both countries as well as the national teams. With negotiations under way for Jamaica to play the USA in October, this is tournament is perfect to view some of the players who aspire to be in that clash. "
