A contingent of 34 players will arrive in Jamaica this weekend as a strong BARLA U23s squad make their second trip there following on from last year’s successful visit.

The entourage will arrive in Kingston tomorrow (June 1) and spend a record 15 days on the island, where they will play Jamaica ‘A’, ‘B’ and U19 teams.

In addition, they will face Jamaica's only semi-professional team, Hurricanes Jamaica.

Recognizing the significance of such tours, the Jamaica Tourist Board has fully endorsed the event.

The British party will conduct clinics in primary schools and also impart their knowledge to the coaching staff and players of the age-group Jamaican national teams during their stay.

“This will help our U19s preparing for the Commonwealth Championship in Scotland at the end of June and our seniors who face Canada and USA later in the year,” said JRL Head Coach and Director of Rugby Romeo Monteith.

“It is the fifth time the JRLA has negotiated significant tours such as this and it's a massive boost not only to our game but also the economy of Kingston. We greatly appreciate BARLA and the Rugby Football League in England for assisting us in improving our playing standards and attracting new fans to the game.

”There are now nearly a thousand players participating in the sport in Jamaica.
