LOKOMOTIVA BEROUN WIN CZRLA GRAND FINAL

5 Nov 2014

Lokomotiva Beroun defeated Czech Rabbitohs 16-12 to claim a Championship/Grand Final double for the third consecutive season. The Rabbitohs, who defeated Beroun on their way to securing both the 2014 CZRLA 9s and the inaugural CZRLA Cup, went into the Grand Final full of confidence and the match proved to be one of the most gripping seen on Czech soil.

The Rabbitohs flair was constantly thwarted by experienced Lokomotiva’s more physical approach and neither side gained ascendency until talismanic Beroun captain-coach, and 2015 Milan Mrtynek Grand Final Man of the Match Medallist,  Jan Buben, ran in the decisive try in the late in the second half.

An interested observer was Catalans Dragons CEO, Christophe Jouffret, who also took time to present the awards at the CZRLA’s annual season presentation evening afterwards. Jouffret also saw local club Teplice Dragons, who have a partnership understanding with their French namesakes, lose heavily to Havlickuv Brod in the Grand Final preliminary game, but was impressed by the grassroots nature of Czech domestic rugby league.

He vowed to further assist in development projects aimed at cooperation between the Catalans Dragons and the CZRLA as both institutions head into significant milestones in 2015 with their respective 10 year anniversary celebrations.
