Match report
GERMANY YOUTH RUGBY LEAGUE FESTIVAL GAME 1
The first ever RLEF Youth Rugby League Festival got underway in Hochspeyer with a well contested match between Scotland U16 and Germany U16. The host nation fielded a youth national team for the first time in its history, and the boys, coached by the RFL’s Dave Raybould who had conducted a three-day camp prior to the festival, acquitted themselves with aplomb.
The Scots scored five tries to the Germany’s one, but weren’t able to take full control of the game until the second half, when Sinclair Matthews’ neat pass to left wing Craig Reid stretched the score out to 18-4 and made any German comeback unlikely.
Moray Titans lock Daniel Godfrey was the outstanding player, organising the Scots well and showing terrific commitment in defence.
