Match report

U18 EUROPEAN CUP 3/4th PLAY-OFF

In the match for third and fourth place in the Cup, a hat trick from outstanding centre Matt Garside saw England beat Ireland 34-6, at Slavia. England led 18-0 at the break, Ireland’s semi final exertions when they just lost out to France, catching up with them.

Twice in the first half, clever handling set Garside free outside his man and the Huddersfield Underbank Ranger’s finishing was clinical. Just before the break Pat Toft’s clever chip was raced onto by Chris Hammett and a great chip and re-gather from Scott Woods brought him a fine solo touchdown.

Ireland regained possession from a short re-start, allowing centre James Wallace to cross. In the closing stages Dave Sutton went the length of the field on a kick return and Garside completed his hat trick.
