U18 EUROPEAN CUP QUALIFYING MATCH
The Celts will play the Czech Republic hosts in the play off for 7th place after they went down to Scotland in the qualifyign round of the 2008 Under-18 European Cup. Dynamic scrum half Chad McGlame led the way with a try treble for the Tartan Army in a 30-0 success, the Czechs getting rousing support from the passionate home crowd in only their second appearance at this age group.
In a physical encounter from the start, Thomas Murray spent time in the sin bin after an overenthusiastic, high tackle on his own line in the 5th minute. McGlame opened the scoring with a breakaway and he was followed to the line by Brad Fraser, Ashley Honeywell and Rhys Bowen.
With McGlame organising the midfield runners with consummate skill and leadership, the Scots had took much firepower for their enthusiastic opponents who never game up and showed real heart in having to defend for the majority of the contest.
The passion and pride exhibited by the Czechs, not least from Michal Vandura, saw them work hard for each other and only concede once in the second half, the vociferous, animated crowd cheering for both teams throughout.
