ENGLAND COLLEGES v SCOTLAND U18

This was the second of two games in 2012 to be played by England Colleges against the Scottish under-18s.In the opening minute England gained possession in the Scottish half and with a set of sweeping moves saw Ash Haynes come within inches of scoring. After this the Scottish team pressed hard and pinned the English team on their line for several sets of 6, but the England Colleges defence stood firm.

Just on the 10 minute mark England finally broke away and swept up field and a neat inside pass from Dougie Foster saw Jed Goddard race over in the corner for an unconverted try. Minutes later saw England once again in the Scottish 20m zone when a deft kick by scrumhalf Danny price was collected by fullback Luke Savage who scored too wide out to be converted. England continued to challenge the Scottish defence leading to Danny Fallon scooting over for a try converted by Danny Price. Danny Price was involved again when another excellent kick was caught by Jed Goddard who scored his second try.

Scotland came more into the game and strong work by their forwards and good prompting by Lewis Clarke and Daniel McGillvary resulted in a well taken unconverted try by wing Neil Alexander. Just before half time England replied with a flowing move which saw Centre Dougie Foster score an unconverted try in the corner to make it 18-4 at halftime.

The second half was a much more even contest with the Scots tightening up their defence and causing England to commit several unforced errors. Nevertheless England’s greater skill out wide resulted in them extending their lead when Brad Ibbison race over for a try and Danny Price converted. Not to be out done the Scots replies with a well taken unconverted try by Stephen Connolly.

In the last 15 minutes England scored twice through Jack Binks (converted by Danny Price) and a second try for Danny Fallon (converted by Scott Rooke). Although the game was lost the visitors continued to press and scored 3 minutes from time when and inside ball to Sam Heron saw him power over for a try converted by substitute Iain Allen.
