Match report

U15 REPRESENTATIVE MATCH

England Youth made it two wins from two on their tour to France when they beat a French espoirs side at the Stade Joseph Marie Antoine in Apt. Sandwiched between England U16’s two Test matches against France, yesterday’s international friendly gave coach Stu Barrow chance to rotate his touring squad and give some much-needed rest to those who participated in England’s first Test victory on Good Friday.

Much like the first Test, England were subjected to a tough contest against their hosts, who held a lead in the match until Liam Walsh scored England’s second try of the match – following Jonathon Cameron’s first half score – three minutes into the second period. Brad Walker’s conversion stretched England’s lead to four points, which, seven minutes later, was turned into an eight point advantage as Brad Clavering went over before missing his own conversion attempt.

After 64 minutes the French did manage to add to the try that Quentin Bonjean scored early on, despite some excellent defence by the visitors on their own goal line, when William Planella went over. However, the missed conversion and more solid play by England ensured they saw out the match and head into tonight’s second Test against France Youth at Complexe Léo Lagrange, Toulon, looking for three wins from three.
