Match report
England Colleges cruised to a comfortable victory over Wales under 18s at Loughborough University on Saturday. They scored six tries in each half in a dominant performance, with Wales managing just one in each half.
England opened their account when Jack Render crossed on the left with Tom Egan converting from out wide. Hooker Ben Blakeston then touched down twice, the first a scoot from dummy-half and the second was the result of an offload by Joslin Landu close to the line. Egan was on target with both conversions to give England an 18-0 lead. Lively full-back Joe Hartley then got his reward when given too much time and space on the right which allowed him to cut through the line and score.
After converting Hartley's try, Egan was causing havoc again with other facets of his kicking game. His bomb wasn't dealt with by the Welsh defence and, after bouncing off the under-side of the bar, the ball found its way into the hands of Dante Morley who touched down. Joe Hartley grabbed his second try when he sliced through the left edge of the Welsh defence and ran 50 metres to cross in the corner.
Wales finally managed to open their account just before half-time when a bomb of their own caused mayhem in the English defence. Jake MacDonald seized on the loose ball before charging 20 metres to score by the posts. That made it 34-4 at the break.
The opening 10 minutes of the second half were scoreless as the Welsh defence held firm against strong English pressure but they eventually cracked. Harry Chapman, who came off the bench at half-time, cut in from the right to dit down under the posts. Zac Hartley took over the kicking duties and duly added the extras. Chapman then turned provider as England struck again; this time his dummy allowed Hartley to cross and then convert his own try. England were relentless and forward James Teixiera was next to produce a line break, going through on the left flank before supplying the pass for Danny King to score under the posts.
Chapman grabbed his second try of the game before he laid on another for Jack Render to extend England's lead to 60 points. Jack Uren completed the scoring when he crossed from short range but the valiant Wales side had the final say when Macauley Harris scooted over from dummy half and George Bidwell-Ford converted.
