GB Community Lions have landed in Serbia for a two-match tour. The Lions will play two games, the first on 22 June against Serbia A at the Institute of Sport, and the second against Serbia at FC Radnicki stadium in Belgrade. This will be the last competitive preparation for the Serbian national team before the summer break and the ensuing conditioning that will follow as preparation builds for October’s world cup qualifiers. Frank Moony, GB Community Lions manager: “I can honestly say that ever since the announcement of the tour there has been a positive buzz within the GB Community Lions camp.I know that the selecting of players for this tour has been a difficult task for the coaches, headed by Jimmy Taylor who has been at the helm for many years. Between them they have selected players from the Southern Conference, the Army, RAF and the National Conference League.
"Some of the players could be categorised as veterans having toured many times over many years - for example centre Gavin Corfield, who is the most capped amateur player. On the flip side it will be the first time for several players who have never toured before. Serbian rugby league is somewhat of an unknown entity to many of those travelling but I am sure we will be in for some tough encounters, especially when you are up against a side coached by the former Great Britain prop Lee Crooks.“
