FIRL YOUTH CAMPS A HIT

14 Jul 2011

FIRL has organised a month of youth rugby league with the collaboration of the town of Carceri, near Padvoa. The summer camp began on 7 July and was attended by over 60 children from the age of 6-14 years. FIRL’s coaches will conduct the sessions twice a week, with a similar camp taking place in the north-west region, around Piacenza.

Tiziano Franchini, coordinator of the project, said: “the objective of this course is to have fun through playing rugby league; we can start to give the correct fundamentals of rugby league. During the first sessions we divided the children into three groups by age.  We then worked on skills, in particular catching and carrying the ball correctly, and passing.  After the skills work we played some games involving the skills we had just learnt. After an afternoon of league the children were enthusiastic and didn’t want to go home.”

FIRL and the municipality of Carceri were equally enthusiastic about the work carried out and also the positive feedback from the young participants.
