CANADA NAME TEAM FOR CEDAR TEST

7 Aug 2012

Canada have named their 17 man team to face Lebanon August 11th at Lamport Stadium in Toronto. The Wolverines welcome back Enoch Wamalwa, Geoff Bylund, Graham Dobbs and Matt Pettie all four players making their first starts of the season for the national squad. Graham Dobbs is joined by his fellow trialist at Hull FC, and only debutant in this match, Chris Chalmers, who becomes the second player from BC to represent Canada in 2012. Lebanon are ranked 14th by the RLIF and Canada are ranked 21st and will be looking to upset the Cedars on Canadian Soil.

When asked about his team's chances Canada's coach Richard Moore commented. "We believe we have picked a strong and experienced team that is more than capable of producing a great result."

Lebanon’s most experience player, Jounieh fullback Pierre Nasr, withdrew from the squad due to a family illness on the day of departure, leaving an already young and inexperienced squad with an uphill task. Added to that, the Lebanese faced a tense and traumatic start to their journey, with political unrest in the country leading to protesters blocking off the airport road and outbreaks of violence in response to events in neighbouring Syria. Some members of the squad had to complete the final few kilometres of their trip to the airport on foot to avoid the ad hoc roadblocks.
