Irreductibles Edetans have won the first-ever Spanish ‘Campeonato Nacional de Liga’, finishing top of the league ladder by two points from Ciencias Rugby Valencia.
Four teams played six matches each from March to June, with only four points separating them after the final round of games.
The champions are an amalgamation of two sides Irreductibles Mislata and Edetans Moncada and were presented with the title by AERL President Salomé Sansano, in the presence of Moncada Mayor Don Juan José Medina, after their final fixture against the runners up.
Marcos Jabaloyas, President of Irreductibles Mislata said: “We've got something that was unthinkable. Irreductibles Edetans is the union between two teams and to end as the champions, I'm very proud of the effort of all the players.”
Salome Sansano added: I want to thank the efforts of all participants; volunteers, players, coaches and referees. Together we have achieved something very beautiful which is a collective victory for all clubs and Spanish RL lovers.”

This weekend see the start of the first ‘Copa de España de Rugby League’, with five teams taking part; Irreductibles Edetans, Ciencias Valencia, Alcoià Comtat, Valencian Warriors and newcomers, Almogàvers XIII Valencia.
