The inaugural second division of the Jamaican Rugby League has kicked off, with four teams taking part. The development continues the mandate of the JRLA to have locals playing the sport more often throughout the year and sees senior club games taking place for the first time outside the traditional May-September window. 

JRLA Director of Rugby Romeo Monteith commented, “This competition is taking us boldly in to new territories. We are playing rugby league in what was traditionally our off season and this can only mean the appetite for the game is growing. We hope to see more teams join in the coming years and also for some of our division two clubs to expand and play in the National Club Championship as well.”

In the first ever game, Washington Boulevard Bulls overcame North Street Falcons 26-10; Christopher Bascuine, Tarj Pecco, Adolph Gayle, Romario Burke and Romario Beckord posting tries for the Bulls while scrum Half Mark Edwards kicked three conversions. Falcons fought back with four-pointers from Sheldon Kelly and player/coach Huntley Anderson, Rushane Taylor landing their goal.

In the second match of a double-header, Olympic Angels found their rhythm in the second half to outgun Liguanea Dragons B 28-10. Tries for the Angels came from Kareem Harris, Rohoji Neil, Michael Gray with a double, Dave Brightly and former Kingston College standout Roje Sales; Omar Davis kicking two conversions. For the Dragons, Nathan Campbell and Rageem Mclean crossed for tries with Mclean also adding a goal.
