Match report

FRANCE U19 v AIS U18

France U19 claimed another famous victory over the Australian Institute of Sport on the latter’s first game of their traditional tour.

Following Christian Hazard’s 15th minute opener, the French, playing before an energised Salon crowd of 2000, hit back six minutes later when Bastien Escamilla snaffled captain Joris Bissiere’s grubber and managed to touch down before going over the dead ball line. Impressive centre Hakim Miloudi then went over on 26 minutes to double France’s score, which remained 8-4 until the interval.

The visitors repeated the start they’d made to the game, with Hazard setting up Brent Gentles 45th minute leveller. Two penalties, from Miloudi and Hazard, kept the two sides locked up with 25 minutes remaining. Miloudi kicked another two-points after a fracas on 58 minutes, and with Australia down to 12-men following Jo Stimpson’s sin-binning, France seized control, with front row Molinier scoring on the hour to make it 18-10. With the Marseillaise ringing out, Miloudi kicked his third penalty to make it 20-10 before wingman Ghanem sped in with a minute to go.
