CUSTODIANS MADRID ARE SPANISH CHAMPIONS

Another milestone was reached in Spanish rugby league when Custodians became the first team from Madrid to win the championship Grand Final.

They defeated favourites Ciencias XIII Valencia in the River Stadium, Valencia, 26-10, two-try Iago Vázquez man of the match.

Custodians president Miguel Ángel Montoro, said, “We take great pride in the strength that Madrid is gaining in Spanish rugby league, winning the completion in our first year marks a quantum leap. Nothing of this would have been possible without the trust and help received from the AERL . We will keep on working hard to continue with the expansion of this wonderful sport.”

A large contingent in the crowd came from the capital and Salomé Sansano, president of AERL, noted, “It's wonderful news to see how a team from Madrid has got to the level of the Valencian stronghold. This victory should be a stimulus for new teams from emerging regions like Andalusia and Catalonia, that is the challenge for next season.”

Meanwhile, in Andalusia, Córdaba Fénix won the first regional championship winning all their matches against Bandoleros Ronda, Coria Samuráis and Mineros Peñarroya.
