U18 TOURNAMENT BEGINS FOR BELGRADE TROPHY

Four nations meet in the capital of Serbia over the next three days to contest the Belgrade trophy for U18s. Serbia, England Lionhearts (North West), Lebanon, and Bosnia and Hertzegovina’s Vitez will do battle, with the semi finals today being played at the SC Makish, Police Stadium and the play off and final on Sunday at the FC Radniki ground.

Serbia U18 coach, Admir Hadžić, said: “We are happy that we can again host talented rugby league youngsters from different parts of the world. Teams coming all the way from Lebanon and England is a great sign of respect for the growth of rugby league in our country but also in the region, especially as we also have team coming from Bosnia and Herzegovina. I'm sure it will be an exciting tournament and a true rugby festival here.”

The Junior Cedars first visited Belgrade in 2012 when they lost to the Lionhearts and the young Serbs. Lebanon head coach Nayef Abi-Said noted: “I am very proud of progress these young men have made over the past month even though the preparations were in the midst of their finals exams. As a team, the players are determined to go to Serbia and give their ultimate.”
