GC FOSTER WIN INTERCOLLEGIATE RUGBY LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP

24 Apr 2018

The eighth Jamaican Intercollegiate rugby league championship was claimed by GC Foster College Lions, as they defeated Excelsior Community College Eagles (Exed) 24-6 in the Grand Final, at the University of West Indies Mona Bowl.

The Lions were brilliantly led by MVP Mikel Facey whose play-making skills were the difference between the teams. Facey also posted a try and he was well supported by winger Adrian Thomas who got over for a hat-trick. GC’s other touchdown came from Adam Morris, whilst Thomas kicked two conversions to end with 16 points.

Jamaican international Owen Linton scored Exed’s only try but poor handling was their undoing as they failed to capitalise on chances made, their afternoon summed up when Chevaughn Carter dived over in the second half, only to have the ball fall from his hands whilst grounding.

In the third place play off game, Mico University College Crocs defeated the University of the West Indies Pelicans, 38-16.  Delano Smith scored a brace of tries for the victors and for UWO, Michael Pearson claimed a try and two conversions.
