New season, same old story in Serbian Rugby League, as current champions Red Star secured yet another trophy in SRL Super Cup. Repeated champions once again were convincing against arch rivals Partizan 62:12 (32:6) at Belgrade’s BASK Arena stadium.
It was a stalemate, until Milos Zogovic’s second try regain the lead for Serbian and Balkans champions (12:6) and broke the hard black and white defense. Before the half, Red Star would go on and score four unanswered tries which basically ended who will take the first trophy in 2019 SRL season.
Brett Davidson’s team added five more tries in the second half claiming eight consecutive victory in the Belgrade’s eternal derby. Partizan couldn’t match its rivals fire power who proved once again that they are team to beat in the Balkan’s region.
“Even though final score doesn’t say it was very demanding game for us, because Partizan is always a tough opponent and we know each other so much. Also it is a first game of the season for us, after Challenge Cup debut back in January, so it is rewarding to come up with another trophy”, said Red Star president Zeljko Delic.
The SRL season continues next week with the start of SRL First division, where Red Star is also defending champion.
