The latest link up has been announced between a British club and an African nation, with London Broncos signing an agreement with South Africa.
It follows similar partnerships having been put in place between Salford and Ghana, Leeds and Kenya, Hull and Nigeria and, most recently, York and Uganda.
Frans Erasmus, president of SARLSA commented: “We are looking forward to an exciting partnership with the important aim of improving rugby league in South Africa. The sport has enormous potential here and we would like to thank the Broncos’ management for this opportunity and hope it will bear mutual benefit.”
London Broncos CEO, Jason Loubser, added: “We are striving to spread the word of rugby league as well as the London Broncos brand as far and wide as possible. We see the huge opportunity in South Africa to grow the game and we are committed to helping the SRLSA develop both coaches and players as much as we can. We would like to thank Krappie Eloff and Dr Frans Erasmus for the vision and passion they have for the sport, and we look forward to working will them and all their staff.”
“This latest collaboration is further indication that the African nations provide a fertile ground for developing and supporting the sport in terms of infrastructure and talent pathways,” commented Middle East Africa regional director Remond Safi. “South Africa, already as a full member, has the opportunity to take a leading role on the continent and this link up with the United Kingdom’s capital offers both parties a tremendous opportunity to make a real impact.”
