ITALY & SERBIA WOMEN NAME SQUADS

2 Jun 2023

Following on from last weekend’s Test match between their men’s side, Italy and Serbia’s women meet tomorrow (Saturday) at the same Pasian di Prato Rugby Stadium, Udine (kick off 3pm local time).

It will be the second meeting of the nations, the first encounter taking place in Lignano Sabbiadoro almost exactly four years, Italy running out 26-0 winners. Both teams select from four domestic sides.

“We start again with the historic group of the Italy Women's team,” commented head coach Alberto Suin. “We face a side that is more accustomed to rugby league, but I believe a lot in the group. The girls have trained well in the last period and I hope they have a great desire to return to wear the Azzurri blue. I am very confident.”

Opposite number, Dragan Pavlovic, noted: “The game against the Italians is a great opportunity to check our current capabilities. We have been preparing for the 2025 World Cup qualifiers and although they are currently delayed, that is why this game against Italy is worth its weight in gold. I hope we will be a worthy rival to our hosts.”

The match will be live streamed on the European Rugby League Facebook page.
