Kenya Rugby League Men's & Women's Grand Finals Set

18 Aug 2023

The Kenya Rugby League Federation men’s and women’s Grand Finals will be held tomorrow (Saturday 19 August) at the Impala Stadium, Nairobi.

In the men’s, who kick off at 4pm local time, Rift Valley Ruffians face Wolves, from Kiambu County, the sides finishing first and second respectively in the league table, the Ruffians overcoming AP Warriors 21-6 in their semi final, while the Wolves defeated reigning champions Winam 14-6 to make the decider.

League leading Wolves are also in the women’s game (kick off 2pm), facing AP Warriors, having defeated Ngong and Ruffians in their semis.

Ruffians’ men’s player/coach Lawrence Okello said: “It has been a great season with lots of positivity. We only lost one game and now make our second successive Grand Final, and will be hoping for a different result. We look forward to making history by bringing victory home and letting the game be embraced by all within the region.”

His opposite number at Wolves, John Mkala, commented: “The season has been an incredible journey so far. We have played some quality teams and got some great results. The fact that we have two teams in the final in both the women and men is a testament to the good systems we have put in place.”

A youth competition also starts this weekend, the KRLF backed by Leeds Rhino Foundation, whose rugby league development manager Darren Higgens has been working with the coaches on-line throughout the season in weekly sessions.
