Nigeria and Ghana’s women are set to meet in an historic senior women’s series for world ranking points. The nations will play two games at the Balogun Stadium in Lagos on November 3 and 5, with a return fixture in Accra, at the University of Ghana’s Ajax Park in Legon, on December 9.  

Newly appointed Nigeria women’s head coach, Samson Okeowo, said: “Throughout my career, I've had the privilege of working alongside some outstanding coaches who have achieved remarkable success. These experiences have been invaluable, and I intend to draw upon them as I step into the role of women’s head coach. We have a blend of seasoned players and emerging talents, each possessing incredible skill. This prospect fills me with excitement for the journey ahead.”

His captain, Rukayat Jimoh-Salami, added: “Becoming the captain of the women's national team feels like a dream come true. I want to extend my sincere appreciation to the NRLA for granting me this privilege. I am fully prepared to embrace the challenges that come with this role.”

Juliana Storey, president of RL Federation Ghana, commented: “These fixtures align seamlessly with our strategic vision and the relentless efforts of the RLFG in fostering the growth of women's rugby league in our nation. We are confident that the selected players will epitomize our aspirations and bring glory to our nation.”

“In our role as the coaching staff, we are engaged in a meticulous evaluation of every player within our league to identify the top 20 individuals who will proudly represent our country in the forthcoming matches against Nigeria,” said Ghana women’s head coach Jafaru Mustapha. “Drawing from the impressive performances we've witnessed in the matches played thus far, we are filled with immense optimism.”

Rosemary Serwonu will captain Ghana.
