Line Ups Named For Thursday's Wheelchair Internationals

20 Nov 2024

England’s team to face Spain in Thursday’s Wheelchair International, played in Nantes at 5pm, will see four players make their debut.

Chris Haynes, Nathan Holmes, Tritan Norfolk and Jason Owen are all named by Head Coach Tom Coyd in the line up, which will see England take on Spain for only the second time, the first game being at the Rugby League World Cup 2021 which saw England win 104-12.

Anthony Martin and Mathieu Monedero will make their debuts for Spain with the rest of the squad all experienced campaigners from the World Cup campaign.

Meanwhile, France take on Ireland in the 8pm slot with the game broadcast at sportenfrance.com

The last meeting between the two in 2015 saw France win 100-8, but with Ireland vastly improved and fielding more domestic players than ever before, the game is sure to be a closer affair.

Ireland’s squad features. Mel Griffith (who also represents Ireland at Para-Badminton) and James McCarthy, a two-times Paralympian who has pulled on the Ireland shirt in six sports, with all players having previous earned representative honours for Ireland.

France will make history by naming Lisa Lartigue who will not only become the youngest person to represent the France Wheelchair side but also the first female. The trailblazer who captain’s Toulon is very proud of her deserved selection. Elsewhere Pierre Botte, Thomas Candela and Guillaume Dubruel will also make their debut for les Bleus!
