CANADA NAME SQUAD FOR JAMAICA CLASH

30 Jul 2011

The Canada Wolverines have named a strong line up to take on Jamaica at Fletchers Field, Markham, Ontario on Sunday, 31st July (kick off 3.30). Rugby’s Reggae Boys won the previous clash between the nations in last Autumn’s Atlantic Cup in the USA, 32-12 and they will be favourites again despite selecting a wholly domestic-based squad. The Wolverines have named ten players that featured in the Atlantic Cup while Danny Tupou and Chris Diamond return from the Colonial Cup side that took on the USA Tomahawks in Canada’s inaugural match last September.

Five debutants make up the rest of the squad including 19-year old Harlequins RLFC academy player Louis Robinson. “The standard of the boys looked good,” he said on joining up with his new team mates. “I’m impressed with what I’ve seen and excited to play my first game for Canada.”

Canada coach Jamie Lester commented, “I know we have come a long way since last year. If we play to our potential on Sunday I am confident good things will happen.”

The Jamaicans arrived in Toronto on Wednesday giving them time to settle into their surroundings and their coach Romeo Monteith confidently expressed, “We have not come all this way to Canada to lose. We are going to be ferocious for the full 80 minutes.”
