SERBIA AND HUNGARY INCREASE CO-OPERATION

5 Mar 2012

Serbian club Radnicki of Nova Pazova travelled to neighbouring Hungary at the weekend, beating Danube Pirates 34-11 in the hosts’ second ever match of rugby league. The fixture follows an October tour to Belgrade by the Hungarians, where they were beaten 68-10 by a Belgrade XIII. The home side were in the game at the break, trailing by only 18-7 and having led, briefly, through Nicolas Vallod’s 26th minute field goal, but the Serbs’ experience told in the second half, as Slavisa Zekic’s men held their opponents to just one more score while scoring three tries of their own.

Jovan Vujosevic, RLEF Central and Eastern Europe Director, was delighted with the continuing co-operation between Serbia and Hungary: "I am very pleased with the amount of activity that is going on in Hungary in a very short period, since July 2011. I am particularly pleased with the activities carried out by Serbian Rugby League Federation and its member clubs to encourage Hungarians to play rugby league. At Easter another Serbian club will tour Hungary and I hope that the formation of the Hungarian Rugby League governing body will be completed before the end of 2012."
