BROADBENT COMPLETES THREE CAMPS IN THREE DAYS

21 Mar 2012

Italian national team assistant coach, Paul Broadbent,  completed a busy weekend of development in Italy over the weekend, running three separate camps at three different locations. FIRL’s ongoing project to utilise Broadbent to not only stimulate interest but also enhance the skill level and rugby league knowledge in Italy has so far been successful.

Braodbent worked on the basics of the game, focusing on tackle techniques, line running, the organisation of markers and reinforcing basics rugby league game management. The odyssey began on Friday at Bassa Bresciana, continued the next day in Este and concluded on Sunday in Padova.

FIRL official Fabio Di Pietro hailed the interaction with over 80 new players. “The results were clear judging by the enthusiasm shown by all the  participants, and it was very encouraging to see the progress at the end of the camps and to hear the participants’ appreciation of the work done and that they couldn't wait to put into practice everything they learned in the Italian domestic championship.”

Alfonso Peloso from c’è l’Este Rugby said at the end of stage: "It was an honor to work in the field with Paul Broadbent, who introduced rugby league in a simple but effective way. Everything was very interesting, especially the technique of combined tackles. I am very enthusiastic about what we have learned,  Mr. Broadbent looked at the fundamentals in a very detailed manner. I hope we have a chance to hold other camps this year.”

FIRL is building up progressively to the start of the Serie A championship in May.
