PIONEERS SPREADING THE WORD IN POLAND

2 Jul 2012

Sunday the 1st of July saw a historic game of rugby league played in Poland. The Lodz Magpies took on the GB Pioneers in the first ever full match in that country. The GB Pioneers who are touring Poland and providing some valuable experience, pointers and training drills in playing, won the inaugural match 98-0 against a very determined and enthusiastic Polish side.

None of the Polish players have any experience in playing either of the rugby codes and the passion that they showed in the match was noticeable. Despite the scoreline, the Polish side did threaten the line on several occasions in the second half, however, over eagerness and some fundamental handling errors cost them any opportunities for first points.

The game was played in quite hot and humid conditions with temperatures +35C despite it being late afternoon. The match was broken up into 20 minute quarters just so that all players and referees could get enough hydration. All players were very happy and despite it being the first match for any of the Polish players they impressed the GB Pioneers with their enthusiasm.
