PIONEERS ADD SHINE TO POLISH TOUR

The GB Student Pioneers beat the Polska XIII 158-0 on Saturday in the third game of their three-match tour to Poland.

“The score was irrelevant when you saw the 100% the Polish gave and the enjoyment they got from the game,” said Pioneers manager Steve Curtis. “The improvement and understanding in just a week has been amazing.”

Despite the score  Polska XIII produced some attacking rugby league with a near perfect example of an attacking set completed by a spiral bomb to the GB full back. The Polish defence was improved following some sessions delivered by the Pioneers earlier in the week, with the latter needing some more advanced approaches to break the never-say-die home team down.

“The Polish have developed a sense of understanding for rugby league and their structure, organisation and communication was very good today, all centred around rugby league technique,” continued Curtis.

Polska XIII were lifted by the introduction of the RFL’s James Szymik for the last 15 minutes, and came very close to scoring in the dying minutes, even trying for drop goal attempt, but it was not to be.
