GREEK RUGBY LEAGUE FEDERATION FORMED AND ACCEPTED

26 Aug 2013

In a major step forward for the on-going development of rugby league in Greece, an Athens Magistrates Court has approved an application for federation status, confirming the creation of the Hellenic Rugby League Federation. As a result, the HRLF has now been accorded official Observer status by the Rugby League European Federation. HRLF will now hold new elections to vote in directors of the new organisation.

“Now that the Hellenic Federation of Rugby League is recognised by the Greek justice system we can put the sport on the map here,” said Tasos Pantazidis who was President of the Committee to Establish a Hellenic Rugby League Federation.

“Both developments will help us to overcome obstacles put in front of us. We now have the possibility to build relations with local and national communities. The planned 13-a-side club championship, the national team and the regional cups will all have support." Pantazidis added, “I strongly believe that we have entered a new, promising era for rugby league in Greece.”
