This weekends Millennium Magic weekend saw largely positive results for Irish Internationals. In total six Irish players competed in the seven games with three of those picking up well deserved victories for their respective teams.
Along with the three winners their was one Irish player who took part in the thrilling draw between St Helens and Wigan Warriors. Michael McIlorum (See photo) started at hooker for the Warriors and played a starring role in his side opening up at 16-0 lead only for that lead to slip from their grasp in the final minutes of the game.
However, the pick of the Irish performances came from national captain Scott Grix who took up the full back role for Huddersfield Giants as they ran out 38-18 winners in the opening game of the weekend against his brother Simon's Warrington Wolves.
The game changing moment was made by Scott, who with a Wolves forward bearing down on the try line, flicked the ball out of the players hands. The Giants subsequently went the length of the pitch to score the all important try.
Simon had a more frustrating day as he was forced off with a dead leg after just thirty minutes of the game.
The other Irish winners came in the form of Jamie O'Callaghan and Luke Ambler who both took part in Harlequins narrow win over Catalan Dragons.
Irish wing Damian Blanch was on the losing side in that game as he made his debut for the French side.
This is a good start for Irish players as the next world cup in 2013 draws nearer.
